TMS

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

A Medication-Free Treatment Option for Depression

If you’ve been struggling with depression despite medication or therapy, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) may be another option.

TMS is a safe, non-invasive treatment that uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. It does not require anesthesia, surgery, or sedation, and you can return to your normal activities immediately after each treatment.

What to Expect

Treatment is performed in our office while you remain awake and comfortable. Most treatment sessions last about 20–30 minutes, five days a week for 4–6 weeks. Many patients begin noticing improvement within several weeks.

Who Is TMS For?

TMS may be appropriate if you:

  • Have depression that has not improved with antidepressant medication
  • Have experienced medication side effects
  • Are looking for a non-medication treatment option
  • Want to combine TMS with medication and psychotherapy

Is TMS Effective?

TMS is one of the most extensively researched non-invasive treatments for depression. Studies show that approximately 50–60% of patients experience significant improvement in their symptoms, and about one-third achieve remission, meaning their depression symptoms become minimal or disappear.

What Are the Side Effects?

Most patients tolerate TMS very well. The most common side effects are mild scalp discomfort or headache during the first few treatments, which typically improve over time. Serious side effects are rare.
